The Goring family’s focus on environment, energy, and efficiency celebrates 45 years
Did you know? The first Everhot Cooker was invented 45 years ago by Ossie Goring in 1979. It was designed to run on a trickle feed of electricity produced by the water turbine at Coaley Mill in Gloucestershire where the Everhot Showroom and Head Office is still based.
In 1999, Ossie’s son, Guy Goring, launched Everhot Cookers Limited to bring energy efficient heat storage range cookers to our kitchens. A quarter of a century later, Guy’s focus on the environment, energy, and efficiency doesn’t wane.
Ten reasons why Everhot Cookers is energy efficient:
- Everhot Cookers has always been a carbon negative company.
- Altogether, 290kW of solar panels have been installed onto Everhot’s showroom and factory roofs.
- Each individual cooker is hand built in Everhot’s factory by one technician whose name is embossed into the control panel door.
- Almost every single part of an Everhot Cooker is supplied from UK manufacturers.
- 50,000 trees have been planted over four wilding sites surrounding the Everhot Showroom.
- Everhot is proud corporate partners with Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust and the factory building is BREEAM rated ‘Excellent’.
- An Everhot’s average weekly energy consumption is 75kWh, designed so that it won’t exhaust the capabilities of a typical household solar panel installation.
- There are Everhot owners running their cookers on solar, wind, and water power!
- An Everhot never goes to landfill. We offer to buy back our cookers, refurbishing and reselling them to the secondhand market.
- Our running costs are up to half those of comparable heat storage range cookers.
Last month, electricity prices fell from 24.5p per kWh to 22.36p per kWh, bringing the average weekly running cost of an Everhot Cooker down to £16 per week. Providing huge oven space, hot and simmer plates, background warmth for the kitchen, a toaster, and a tumble dryer all in one!
Everhot Owner, Guy Goring says: “We realised years ago that, accidentally, as a result of the hydro and solar power, heat pumps, and tree planting we had done here, we had always been a carbon negative company and therefore the logical decision was to maintain that status as we grew.
“We know that our owners share our affection for the environment. More and more are pairing their Everhot cooker with solar panel installations, benefiting from a cost and energy saving. My father designed our range cookers with efficiency in mind and we haven’t and won’t be deterred from this focus.”
