Sopwell House Launches Elegant Gin Afternoon Tea

Luxury Georgian country home, Sopwell House, has unveiled its new Gin Afternoon Tea, featuring elegant finger sandwiches and handcrafted patisserie inspired by its very own award-winning Sopwell House London Dry Gin, all perfectly paired with a selection of gin cocktails.

Crafted with hand-foraged botanicals from the hotel’s picturesque Hertfordshire estate, the exceptionally smooth Sopwell House London Dry Gin features aromatic notes of wild gorse, lemon verbena and rosemary and gives a long-lasting and fruity mouthfeel. These flavours take centre stage in the afternoon tea menu of specially curated pastries, each designed to highlight the gin’s distinct character.

Available now until 2nd March, savour sweet treats like a lemon and gin loaf with a delicate citrus glaze, a rich orange and chocolate slice layered with velvety ganache, a honey and mascarpone cake topped with golden honeycomb, and a grapefruit choux filled with zesty cream.

Alongside pastries, guests can enjoy homemade scones with Devonshire clotted cream and strawberry preserve, as well as a selection of traditional finger sandwiches, including Severn & Wye smoked salmon and lemon cream cheese; smoked chicken with sun-dried tomato and Buford Brown egg mayonnaise with truffle and mustard cress.

Alongside the afternoon tea, sip away on a choice of signature gin cocktails inspired by Sopwell House’s rich history, including the refreshing Orchard Apple with cordial and soda to reflect the acres of apple orchards that surrounded the manor when first built, or the herbaceous Cottonmill Green, mixed with coriander, cucumber and jalapeño citrus to reflect the cleansing feeling of the hotel’s luxurious Cottonmill Spa. Alternatively, guests can enjoy a selection of loose-leaf teas and coffee, or why not upgrade to a glass of Champagne or swap for a gin-based cocktail of their choosing.

Priced from £37 per person, the Gin Afternoon Tea is available from Monday – Sunday between 1pm – 4pm (cocktails and champagne are additional charges), with bookings now available at www.sopwellhouse.co.uk/dine/afternoon-tea.
