Forget sausage rolls and sandwiches, new data reveals a quarter (24%) of Brits view smoked salmon, olives and hummus as essential picnic foods as the premium picnicking trend is cemented.
To cater to posh picnickers, Asda is launching the first Picnic Punt Delivery Service, delivering premium picnic packages directly into the hands of riverside diners via punting boat. Taking summer extremely seriously, Asda’s Picnic Punt Delivery Service ensures no picnic-fan has to struggle.
Those in Oxford over the weekend will be able to receive a free premium snack box from Asda, complete with essential posh picnic fare such as Stuffed Vine Leaves, Mozzarella Pearls and Italian Cheese & Ham Rollitos from its new Picnic and Modern Deli Bites range.
The launch comes as new research from Asda reveals that Brits are spending 50% more on picnics now than 10 years ago, despite its new Picnic and Modern Deli Bites range offering customers fantastic value with the products available to buy as part of a 3 for £7 deal.
It’s not just the contents of the average hamper that’s undergone a makeover. Whilst once a simple chequered rug and some paper plates might suffice, a quarter (24%) of Brits now view wine glasses, bread knives and bottle coolers as essential picnic equipment, with picnickers taking to parks across the country with tableware in tow.
What’s more, 60% of Brits say they would travel for longer than half an hour to find the perfect picnic spot, demonstrating a true commitment to the cause. With Asda’s new Picnic Punt Delivery Service, Brits can set up in a picturesque riverside location, without needing to worry about the proximity to a shop for supplies.
Available for one weekend only, Asda’s Picnic Punt Delivery Service will operate along the River Cherwell, a renowned punting location in Oxford, on Saturday the 10th and Sunday the 11th of August. Picnic packages are completely free of charge. Each box serves two, and there are vegetarian and meat options available.
An Asda spokesperson said:
“We currently delivers to 95% of the UK with our grocery home shopping service, and with the launch of the Picnic Punt Delivery Service, even the waterways aren’t off limits! As research shows that picnics are becoming far posher, Asda’s Picnic and Modern Deli Bites range offers customers the best of both worlds, offering premium nibbles at uncompromising value.”
For those unable to experience Asda’s Picnic Punting delivery service, all products from Asda’s Picnic and Deli Bites Range are available to purchase in-store and online at Asda.com as part of the 3 for £7 offer.
