A third person has died in the United States due to a listeria outbreak linked to Boar’s Head deli meats, according to a federal food safety centre. Since the expansion of the product recall involving US-based Boar’s Head meat and poultry products was announced last month, another person has died in Virginia. The third-party manufacturer has been identified as Joriki, which has been used as a packaging facility by Danone for its plant-based Silk beverage brand. The listeria outbreak in Canada linked to plant-based milk alternatives sold by French dairy giant Danone and retail heavyweight Walmart has been traced back to a factory in Ontario. Suziria will enhance its production capacity in Ukraine and generate 130 new jobs at the site in Kalush. Ukraine-based pet food business, Suziria Group, is set to establish a new wet pet food facility after securing a $2m grant. The USAID Investment for Business Resilience Activity (IBR) approved the grant to fund Suziria’s new site in Kalush following a Russian missile attack that damaged the pet food group’s warehouse in Kharkiv. The provisional decision follows a Phase 2 review revealing that Tereos’ UK retail operation could face closure. The UK’s competition watchdog has provisionally approved T&L Sugars’ proposed acquisition of Tereos’ UK assets. Today (6 August), the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) provisionally determined that, without the deal proceeding, the “most likely outcome is that Tereos’ UK retail business would close”, according to a statement.
