Banana Tree brings big Southeast Asian flavours and legendary Pad Thai to Mill Lane this summer – with a huge giveaway to mark its much anticipated Welsh debut

Immediate release

Banana Tree, the award-winning Southeast Asian restaurant, is thrilled to announce the grand opening of its first-ever Welsh location right in the heart of Cardiff.

And to celebrate this milestone, they’re giving away a mouth-watering 2,000 FREE Katsu curries (or Pad Thais, if that’s more your vibe) to hungry locals ready to dive into bold Southeast Asian flavours.

Cardiff’s Banana Tree officially opens on Monday 2nd June this summer in the city’s buzzing Mill Lane, a prime location known for its thriving dining and nightlife scene.

It will be the brand’s biggest restaurant to date with seating for 249 inside and 38 outside. The new Banana Tree has been designed with a vibrant decor, a buzzing atmosphere, and a menu that spans the very best of Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Malaysia. If you’ve never tried Banana Tree’s legendary Katsu Curry or iconic Pad Thai now’s your chance.

The opening celebrations kick off early, as guests can book in for the restaurant’s exclusive Soft Launch, which offers guests 50% off all meals between 30th May and 1st June, the perfect sneak peek before the doors officially open. These seatings are limited, so book via the Banana Tree website now to be the first to discover the brand new restaurant!

The festivities will then officially kick in with 2,000 FREE Katsu dishes up for grabs, available for a limited time only to those who sign up and book via the website (details below). If Katsu is not your thing then switch it for the iconic Chicken or Tofu Pad Thai, a recipe first created by the founder’s mum over 30 years ago and still a fan favourite.

To mark the occasion, Banana Tree’s signature Tuk Tuk will be zooming through the streets of Cardiff between 5th and 6th June, spreading the word across Cardiff.

The new Cardiff location is more than just a restaurant, it’s a celebration of Southeast Asian culture, flavour and fun. With bold interior design, an open-plan kitchen where you can see the wok chefs in full swing, and a vibrant bar space offering up creative cocktails like the Jungle Bird and the Lychee Martini, it’s the perfect place for anything from a casual lunch to a lively night out.

Tom Patrick, Banana Tree’s Marketing Director, says: “We couldn’t be more excited to open in Cardiff. It’s our very first site in Wales and our biggest restaurant to date right in the heart of one of the UK’s most exciting food destinations. To celebrate, we’re going BIG. That means 2,000 free Katsu curries, cocktails on tap, and our signature Tuk Tuk roaming the streets. Whether you’re joining us for a pre-night-out dinner, a chilled lunch or just to experience something new, we can’t wait to welcome you to the Banana Tree family.”

Banana Tree is famed for its bold Southeast Asian cuisine, with popular dishes like the Beef Rendang, Fiery Gochujang Chicken Bowl and a wide range of vegan options. In fact, more than 40% of the menu is plant-based, making it a go-to for meat lovers and plant-powered diners alike.

Founded in West London over 30 years ago, Banana Tree now operates 21 restaurants across the UK, with recent openings in locations such as Manchester, Bath, Birmingham and now, for the first time, Wales.
