WITH KERTH GUMBS POP-UP AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL

From 20 October, visitors to the Royal Albert Hall are in for a real treat. Rhubarb Hospitality Collection’s Chef de Cuisine Kerth Gumbs is bringing his signature flair to the venue’s Elgar Room Brasserie for Black History Month.

Usually found at Fenchurch on the 37th floor of 20 Fenchurch Street above Sky Garden, Kerth has created a set menu that nods to his Caribbean heritage while offering a fresh, flavour-driven dining experience pre-show dining experience at this iconic London venue.

The limited-edition menu begins with warm sourdough and whipped marmite butter plus an amuse bouche of pumpkin and butternut squash velouté with coconut dumplings, chive and chilli oil. Starters include mixed grilled spiced fish skewers with charred pineapple, guacamole, red onion salad, smoked mayo and trout roe; or curried goat on warm pita with spring onion, carrot, coconut and coriander.

Main dishes take centre stage with dishes such as Josper-grilled venison loin with curried celeriac, sweet potato fondant, salsify crisps and Madeira jus, or a Jerk chicken burger, served with BBQ pineapple, rainbow slaw, scotch bonnet mayo and skin-on fries. Seafood lovers can enjoy grilled mackerel with tamarind glaze, whipped artichoke, cherry tomato and pickled caper berry, while vegetarians can opt for a spiced kofta ‘sausage’ roll, made with grilled maitake mushroom and served with beetroot ketchup.

On the side, Kerth’s take on ‘Mac & Cheese’ with smoked scamorza and cherry tomato salsa; spiced potato wedges with jalapeño cheese sauce; and caramelised parsnips with crispy bacon and maple mayonnaise.

To finish, opt for Eton mess with coconut meringue, vanilla Chantilly, mixed berries and a fig and sorrel coulis, or carrot cake with candied ginger, carrot cream and salted white chocolate.

Whether at the Royal Albert Hall for a film in concert (Back to the Future or Star Wars); stirring classical music with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; or live gigs from Westlife, Wet Leg or The Queens of the Stone Age this autumn – Kerth’s menu is the perfect prelude to a memorable night. A classic children’s menu is also available for those attending family-friendly shows.

The Kerth Gumbs Elgar Room pop-up menu is priced at £54 per person for two courses or £62 per person for three courses plus bread and butter and an amuse bouche.

Available from 20 October – 30 November for Royal Albert Hall ticket holders only. For more information, visit: https://www.royalalberthall.com/
