This year on International Orangutan Day Rainforest Trust is working to protect critical habitat in Indonesia for the Critically Endangered Bornean Orangutan. Orangutans are large, arboreal mammals found in rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra. These primates—Asia’s only great ape—spend nearly all of their life in trees, building nests, sleeping, and swinging amongst the forest canopy. Indonesia’s disappearing rainforests are the final stand for the Critically Endangered Bornean Orangutan and other struggling species. A federal judge has ruled that snacking giant PepsiCo can be sued for allegedly misleading marketing of its Gatorade protein bars. In a decision earlier this week, US District Judge Casey Pitts in San Jose, California, stated that three fitness enthusiasts leading a proposed class action had alleged that PepsiCo’s marketing and labelling of the bars was deceptive. The bars are marketed as ‘good for you’, despite containing more sugar than protein and even more sugar than typical candy bars. Upside Foods is suing the Sunshine State in an attempt to overturn the ban. It was announced this week that the US-based Institute for Justice (IJ) – a non-profit, public-interest law firm – has partnered with cell-based meat company Upside Foods to file a lawsuit challenging Florida’s ban on cultivated meat.
